I often think of one of the stories my mother has told me about her great grand mother; in the Anglo-Boer War, she took her blue and white porcelain plates, wrapped them in wool blankets and built them in to the walls of her house. The walls would hide them and the wool would keep them from burning, just in case they were attacked.
Today, we still have some of her blue porcelain plates in our home.
